Altered gene expression and root thebaine production in polyploidized and methyl jasmonate-elicited Papaver bracteatum Lindl

Persian poppy (Papaver bracteatum Lindl.) is a perennial medicinal plant belonging to the Papaveraceae family that endemic mountainous areas in Northern Iran. It known for high amounts of valuable benzylisoquinoline alkaloid thebaine. The effects induced polyploidy as well effect methyl Jasmonate (MeJA) elicitation on root production thebaine and expression five biosynthesis related genes were studied. vitro tetraploidy induction caused significant increased norcoclaurine synthase (NCS) salutaridinol (SAT), decreased berberine bridge enzyme (BBE) leaves. In tissues, BBE, NCS, SAT showed an tetraploid plants, while codeinone reductase (COR) expression. A similar alteration pattern was found mixoploid plants when compared their diploid counterparts. MeJA at concentrations 0.1 0.5 mM remarkable increase content roots treated where highest identified elicited with MeJA. Elicitation treatment substantial NCS leaves, it had no major codeine 3-O-demethylase (CODM) COR. Expression analysis only BBE other studied remained unchanged. Our results may be exploited improved processing poppy.
